Incorporating Photovoice Into a Community-Based Intervention With Latinx Families

Photovoice is a qualitative community-based participatory research (CBPR) method used by researchers and communities to inform policy advocate for community change. was piloted within an established intervention, Your Family, Neighborhood (YFYN), predominantly Latinx community. YFYN dual-generation, evidence-based, manualized curriculum supporting strengthening bonds between parents their children while fostering neighborhood social cohesion among families living in low-income communities. The photovoice project conducted with five (n=20 participants) English Spanish. Participants guided the process uncover complex issues from direct perspectives accurately capture challenges strengths they encounter Community identified participants included dumping of trash neighborhood, inadequate space play, heavy traffic that impedes ability walk school safely. three main strengths: local park, Boys & Girls Club, personal connections other family participants. When guide process, it helps stakeholders understand members’ meaning accurately. Production knowledge rooted lived experience can help reshape narrative allows workers more adequately respond specific needs.
